Recent developments in 3D whole organ and whole-body imaging have revolutionized our view on tissues and is liberating the research from artificial 2D cell culture.
This has opened new windows to investigate 3D cultures systems and organs and changed our view on whole model organisms such as zebrafish, Drosophila, Xenopus, rodents and plants. This revolution however, also comes with new challenges for imaging the large volumes, data analysis and sample handling.
